Tony Greenfield

Tony grew up in Lincolnshire, England, and graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1967 with a degree in Geography. Soon after graduation he set off to see the world, and in the spring of 1969 found himself on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. It was love at first sight and he has resided in the Sechelt area ever since, considering it the best possible place to live in the entire world. From 1969 to 2004 Tony made a career in the silviculture industry, operating Whiskeyjack Reforestation Ltd, a contract treeplanting company. During those years the company planted 80,000,000 seedlings throughout BC and Alberta. Tony considers one of the perks of that job was that it took him to every remote corner of British Columbia.

Since 1979 Tony has been involved with the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society, many of those years as president. He is also a founder member of the BC Field Ornithologists and served as president of that organisation for 4 years, 1996-2000.

In May 2009 Tony’s book ‘Waterfalls of British Columbia-a Guide to BC’s 100 Best Falls’ was published. In the 12 years since he became interested in waterfalls he has visited about 300 waterfalls from Yukon to California.

Tony has also authored 'A Hiking Guide to the Trails of the Lower Sunshine Coast', produced the bar graph formatted 'Birds of the Sunshine Coast - A Checklist', and was a species reviewer for 'The Birds of BC', Vols 3 & 4. Presently, he is one of the joint authors of the forthcoming Guide to the Birds of British Columbia.
