Featured Tour

Arizona in February

17-28th February 2016

2016 will be the 14th consecutive year for the Arizona in February tour. In 2015 we had great views of that most charismatic of all the birds of the Southwest, a Roadrunner, on the first morning. The headline destinations are Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon & Sedona, but the saguaro cactii of the Sonoran desert, Sabino Canyon, the Painted Desert, the red rock scenery of Sedona and many other highlights will delight you.

April…… Southern Utah & Death Valley. Headline destinations are Bryce Canyon, Zion Canyon & Death Valley but other enthralling destinations are Park Lane in Arches NP, Navajo National Monument, Dead Horse State Park, Antelope Canyon slot canyon (you have seen it in the photographs!) and Zabriskie Point Danny's Griz.jpgin Death Valley.

June & July take us to the Land of the Midnight Sun, the Yukon. In 2015 I completed my 22nd spring/summer tour of the Yukon & Dempster Hwy.  The Dempster is on the bucket list of many Canadians and you have not seen Canada until you have seen the Dempster! Scenic highlights include Tombstone Mountain, the Ogilvie Mountains, the Richardson Mountains, the Mackenzie Delta, Top of the World Hwy, the White Pass & Atlin. 2015 Highlights. The Yukon and Dempster Hwy have possibilities for large mammals, birds, wildflowers, scenery and cultural history around every corner. Perhaps the most memorable encounter in 2015 was a Grizzly that wandered around our van less than 5 metres away. For cultural & historic interest we visit Whitehorse, Dawson City, Inuvik & Skagway.

Late July is The Sunshine Coast for Naturalists. 2014 Highlight……….while eating dinner on the deck of the spectacular West Coast Wilderness Lodge a pod of Orcas swam by. The following day we spent a couple of hours with the pod in Jervis Inlet.

Arizona in February, 17-28th February 2016 (12 days)

Escape to the blue skies and sunshine of Arizona. We visit the beautiful saguaro deserts of the Tucson area, and the famous canyonlands of the Navajo nation at Canyon de Chelly & Monument Valley. We also visit the Painted Desert, the Grand Canyon, the red rock country of Sedona & many other special places.

Southern Utah & Death Valley, 20th April-1st May 2016 (12 days)

Southern Utah has more national parks than anywhere else in the US including the incomparable duo of Bryce Canyon & Zion Canyon. We also visit Arches NP, Canyonlands NP & Monument Valley.  I have recently added the amazing Antelope Canyon to the tour, perhaps the most famous slot canyon in the world. We also visit Death Valley National Park in nearby California.

Yukon & Dempster Highway (12 days)

I     18-29 June 2016     II   1-12 July 2016

The Yukon is a fabled land whose very name evokes images of wilderness and a frontier populated by colourful characters. The heart of our adventure is the drive up the Dempster Highway from Dawson City to Inuvik. At latitude 66N we cross the Arctic Circle and enter the Land of the Midnight Sun with 24 hours of sunlight at this time of the year. At the end of the Dempster, in Inuvik, we will explore the Mackenzie Delta by boat, and take a flight across the delta to Tuktoyaktuk, where we can dip our toes in the Arctic Ocean. .

The Sunshine Coast for Naturalists, 25-29th July 2016 (5 days)

On the Sunshine Coast land and water are inextricably entwined. Consequently, we will spend part of each day on the water, including outings to Princess Louisa Inlet, Jedediah Island, Thormanby Island and a sunset cruise to Hotham Sound. Princess Louisa Inlet is one of the world's great beauty spots, and Erle Stanley Gardiner, creator of Perry Mason, once famously said of Princess Louisa “There is no use describing that Inlet. Perhaps an atheist could view it and remain an atheist, but I doubt it”.

The Sunshine Coast’s culinary offerings are an important part of this tour and we will sample the best available. All meals are included on the tour except for 4 dinners
